CSTEP’s work in the power sector focuses on system simulation studies for transmission planning and economic operation of the system in view of increasing renewable energy penetration levels. Our work also involves providing technology and policy options for improving operational efficiency in the distribution sector. The studies aim to enable utilities to make better informed decisions while planning for:

1.    Integration of high amounts of renewables onto the grid
2.    Investments in strengthening the existing grid
3.    Implementation of smart grid technologies
4.    Reduction of aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses.

The vision of the team, broadly, is to provide continued support by engaging with stakeholders in the transmission and distribution sector at the state level in the areas of grid planning studies, modelling efforts and distribution reforms. In this regard, CSTEP is continuously engaged with the Ministry of Power, state transmission utilities, distribution utilities, electricity regulatory commission, state planning departments, load despatch centres, and renewable development nodal agencies.
