Abstract:
With a long coastline of 7516 kms, and EEZ of 2.3 million sq kms, offshore wind potential is yet to be tapped in India. Due to increasing technological maturity of offshore wind turbines and also maturity of project finance for offshore wind, India should initiate offshore wind projects. Existing policies in the form of Article 297 of the Constitution and the MZI Act, 1976 serve as a readily available legal sanction for permitting offshore wind projects.
