There is adequate scientific evidence to show that climate change is already occurring, and is projected to happen at an increasing rate in the coming decades. Adaptation to current climate risks and climate variability is the first step to long-term adaptation. There is a need to understand projected climate change for a given region, its implications for the goals of various development and infrastructure programmes, the risks to achieving these goals, and identify climate-resilient designs or formulate targeted adaptation measures to cope with the projected climate change impacts. The Adaptation and Risk Planning team strives to further understanding on the needs for adaptation, the risks and costs of not adapting to climate variability and change, and suggest measures and strategies needed to build climate resilience in natural and socio-economic systems.
