Recent global assessments have projected just a 10-year window for all countries to drastically curb GHG emissions to stay on the 2 degree pathway. This is particularly challenging for countries like India, which are still setting up infrastructure and key industries for meeting economic and developmental goals. The Pathways and Forecasting team seeks to support policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the research community to improve understanding of low-carbon transitions. We envision that policy planning, regulations, and market decisions made on the basis of detailed pathways analysis of complex systems can enable Indiaâs progression on sustainable development goals and curb GHG emissions.
The team evaluates the energy-environment-economy nexus using sophisticated models including The Integrated MARKAL-EFOM System (TIMES), Computable General Equilibrium and Input-Output based models, and System Dynamics models. Further, the team has expertise in greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement mechanisms and reporting methodologies. The team has recently developed a system-dynamics tool and compiled macro-economic databases to examine cross-sectoral and economy-wide linkages. CSTEP has undertaken interdisciplinary studies for low-carbon growth at national and regional levels, developed sectoral roadmaps for state planners, and assisted capacity-building efforts for policy stakeholders on energy-emissions analysis.
